1. Your learner comes home from Acton one day and tells you that he/she is having problems with some of the other learners in the studio. He/she tells you that they feel bullied when they are disciplined by their fellow learners. Your learner feels as if some of the others are getting away with certain behaviors, while they are given consequences for the same behaviors. He/she is having trouble expressing this frustration to the other learners in the studio. As an Acton parent, how would you guide your learner to approach this problem?
2. Your Learner has received their third strike. According to their contract, they will need to stay home for a day and draft a letter to their studio apologizing for their behavior and explaining what they will do differently. What does that time at home look like?
3. Your entire family has been having a stressful week. For the entire week, the weather outside has been gloomy and rainy. The house is a mess. Your learner has not been as productive with their academics, and they have been slacking on their responsibilities at home. Is there anything you would do to try to help this situation if anything?
4.For the last couple of months, your Learner has participated in an extracurricular activity, sport, or other obligation. He/she comes home one day and tells you that he/she doesn’t want to continue anymore in this activity. After a particularly hard week, they tell you that they find this activity too difficult, and would rather do something else. As a parent, what kinds of questions would you ask your child? How would you guide them in this situation?
5. It is the third session of the year. One night after dinner you ask your learner to show you what they’ve been working on at school. After reviewing their progress, you see that they’ve been spending most of their time focusing on one subject. While he/she is making great progress in this area, the other areas don’t have anywhere near the same amount of progress. What would you say to your learner, if anything? What questions might you ask them about their progress?
6. You learn that your learner is not putting in their best effort towards completing their goals. If they continue this behavior, they will not complete their badge. How would you guide your learner?
7. For whatever reason, you are running late to Acton one morning with your learner. By the time you get to Acton, you’ve missed the posted drop-off window and the morning launch has already started. Your learner enters the studio, but he/she is asked to sit outside and not participate. Share this scenario with your learner and ask them how they would respond. How would you respond? How would you guide your learner to respond?
Thank you for ccompleting the scenarios.
We will get back to you as soon as possible.
